Dave Connolly had his spirits lifted by Scotland’s 4-1 win over Armenia, saying: “It’s been a frankly rotten couple of weeks to be a Scotland fan but that win over Armenia coupled with England getting spanked 4-0 at home by Hungary was just what I needed to cheer me up. Mon the mighty Magyars!”

Scott Gowers, Edinburgh, added: “What a night to be a Scotland fan!

“Firstly Scotland winning convincingly, England getting destroyed 4-0 at home by Hungary!

“The only problem I have was with Armenia’s goal was the clear foul that happened prior to the goal and my concern is the selective VAR interpretation.

“VAR is meant to create the correct outcome but for some reason the video ref didn't get involved when a goal was scored from a clear foul.”
