Aston Villa agreed a deal with Preston North End for Cameron Archer to spend the rest of the season on loan at Deepdale and the move is already paying dividends.

The 20-year-old scored on his Preston debut in Wednesday’s 2-0 win over West Bromwich Albion, heading home from close range in the 76th minute after Greg Cunningham’s shot was parried into the air.

Archer has been prolific for Villa at youth level and continued his scoring run in the first-team, so it’s no surprise he immediately got on the scoresheet at Preston.

Fans on social media watched Archer’s performance at the Hawthorns and hailed his instant impact.

Archer scored 16 goals with seven assists in 32 games for the U23s and boasted four goals in six games in the first-team, so big things are expected of him in the Midlands. He now has one goal in as many games for Preston and will hope to get more opportunities in the coming weeks and months.

The loan move benefits all parties, as Villa will have a more experienced striker at their disposal when Archer returns to Bodymoor this summer.
