Fans convinced Justin Gaethje jinxed himself after getting a haircut on UFC Embedded

UFC fans are convinced that Justin Gaethje was cursed with bad luck before his fight with Charles Oliveira on Saturday.

The American’s bid to win the lightweight title at the second attempt ended in failure in the early hours of Sunday morning in the main event of UFC 274 at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona.

Fan favourite Gaethje suffered a devastating first-round submission defeat to Do Bronx, who stretched his unbeaten run to eleven fights.

Gaethje got off to a strong start after dropping his Brazilian opponent twice in the first round but was unable to keep up the momentum before he was forced to tap to the former lightweight champion.

But some MMA fans believed it had something to do with Gaethje getting a haircut on an episode of UFC Embedded in the build-up to the event.

One of the UFC’s biggest myths is that a fighter is most likely to lose if they visit a barbershop on the behind-the-scenes vlog.

A video of Gaethje getting his hair cut was posted on MMA Reddit last night. And fans couldn’t help but state the obvious.

One UFC fan wrote: “Gaethje was lucky he lasted so long with such odds against him.”

Another said: “As soon as I saw the episode I bet on Charlie Olives!

“What a dumbass lol [sic].”

And another said: “MMA maths may not work but don’t openly taunt the MMA gods like that.”

While another said: “Barber had money on Oliveira.”

Oliveira, meanwhile, was happy with his performance overall and called for a shot at Conor McGregor for the vacant title.
