Fans claim Liverpool are living 'rent free' in Pep's head as he guesses reporter supports Reds

Is the pressure of competing with Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool beginning to get to Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola?

City, who crashed out of the Champions League last week after capitulating against Real Madrid in the semi-final second leg at the Bernabeu, took a step towards clinching the 2021-22 Premier League title on Sunday with an emphatic 5-0 victory at home to Newcastle United.

Liverpool dropped two points on Saturday evening when they failed to beat Tottenham at Anfield. The Reds now sit three points behind City with three league fixtures remaining.

Following his side’s convincing win over Newcastle, Guardiola made the surprise claim in a post-match interview that “everyone in this country supports Liverpool – the media and everyone”.

Now a clip from his post-match press conference has emerged showing Guardiola incorrectly guessing that one particular reporter was a Liverpool fan.

The reporter in question asked the revered Catalan coach: “After Wednesday’s events you must be ecstatic with that performance. That result and scoreline?”

Pep, with a wry smile, responded: “Did you have any doubts?”

The reporter answered: “Err… too many today…”

Guardiola then said: “Yes, you are a Liverpool fan, come on.”

The City boss was then left looking rather sheepish when the reporter told him that he was, in fact, a Manchester United fan.

Pep, perhaps feeling sorry for him, added: “I’m sorry, James!”
