"Fans are going to be very annoyed" - Journalist reacts after major Everton exit claim
Everton fans will be “annoyed” if the Merseyside club sell Anthony Gordon to Chelsea this summer, believes journalist Simon Phillips.
The west London club have already seen a £45m offer for the winger turned down, but that may not be the end of it with the transfer window still open.
Everton manager Frank Lampard recently refused to guarantee that Gordon will still be at Goodison Park after September’s deadline.
“You can’t ask me to assure anything, it’ll be naive of me to assure anything,” the Toffees boss said prior to his side’s 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest over the weekend. “I can’t assure I’ll be here by the end of the window.”
The above comes after The Telegraph claimed that Gordon had informed Everton that he wants to join Chelsea this summer following their £45m bid for him.
While Lampard has made it clear that he wants to keep the 21-year-old, a deal still looks possible, with CBS reporter Ben Jacobs stating that Everton have a price tag for the player, which is £50m.
Phillips thinks Everton fans will not be too pleased if the club allow Gordon to depart before the transfer window closes.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: “He’s come through the ranks there and he’s the kind of player that the fans are going to be very annoyed about losing. But at the same time, I speak to a few Everton fans and they say that it’s something that they’re used to with the club.
“You know, it happened with Ross Barkley. They sold him and a few of their other really good players; they struggle to keep hold of them. And a lot of fans just see it going around in circles.”
As Phillips mentioned, Gordon is a player who has come through the ranks at Everton, someone who has a connection with the club.
