‘Fancies West Ham’ - £18m-rated man ‘let down’ after club block move to London, says insider

As per Claret & Hugh, there has been an update from Jesse Lingard’s side as West Ham United fail to sign their long-term target on deadline day.

Reliable reports suggested that the Irons and recruitment chief Rob Newman mounted a late assault to sign the England international on deadline day.

This came after manager Ralf Rangnick green-lit his exit in the final hours of January, with the only thing then standing in West Ham’s way being United’s board of directors.

ExWHUemployee backs that the Hammers submitted a last gasp offer for the 29-year-old but, despite his willingness to return to the London Stadium, Red Devils chiefs refused to sanction a move anywhere for Lingard.

Alas, with Lingard now set to leave as a free agent at the end of 2021/2022, it appears the Irons will have to wait until the summer to sign him on a free deal.

The midfield maestro won’t be able to assist his old boss as he aims to guide West Ham to a Champions
