Fan dies after collapsing at Manchester United v Liverpool game

A man died after collapsing at Manchester United's match against Liverpool last weekend, it has now been confirmed. The 65 year-old was taken ill inside the ground on the day of the game

He was taken to hospital but later died Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said in a statement issued today (Friday, September 6).

The man has not been named. His cause of death is unknown and no further details about the tragic incident have yet been released. The death has been referred to the coroner GMP added.

A GMP spokesperson said: "Officers responded to reports of a medical episode inside Old Trafford stadium on Sunday 2 September 2024. Sadly, a 65-year-old man passed away in hospital. A file has been sent to the coroner."

A sell-out crowd of 73,738 was in attendance at Old Trafford the Premier League match against the historic rivals in which Liverpool ran out 3-0 winners.
