FAI Cup round-up: Wins for UCD, Wexford, Kerry & Finn Harps

Premier Division basement boys UCD received a welcome fillip in the FAI Cup on Friday evening when they ran out worthy 3-2 winners over Cobh Ramblers at the UCD Bowl.

The First Division outfit took the lead against the run of play when Dale Holland pounced on an opportunity in the 16th minute.

Jack Keaney restored parity seven minutes later when he drilled a low free-kick past Lee Steacy in the Cobh goal.

The Students then took the lead four minutes after the restart in the second half when Wilson Waweru contrived to head into his own goal from a corner.

Danny Norris made it 3-1 to UCD when he found the net after 62 minutes, following fine work from Jesse Dempsey, with Dean Larkin header from a Liam Kervick corner proving no more than a consolation goal.

Ethan Boyle, Aaron Doran and Eoin Kenny were all on target as Wexford FC coasted past Avondale United 3-0 and into the second round.

Ryan Kelliher's second-half brace ensured Kerry FC progressed past another non-league Cork side in Ringmahon Rangers on a 2-0 scoreline.

An in-form Kilbarrack United side with a number of former League of Ireland players in their ranks provided Finn Harps with a stern test at Greendale Road, but the First Division side avoided a slip-up courtesy of Max Hutchison's 23rd-minute goal.
