FAI Cup round-up: Rovers put four past Bangor

Shamrock Rovers continued their impressive week with a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Leinster Senior League side Bangor Celtic to progress to the next round of the FAI Cup.

The Hoops beat Ludogorets on Tuesday, although they bowed out on aggregate against the Bulgarian champions, and followed it up with a straightforward victory at Tallaght Stadium against the non-league side.

Rory Gaffney opened the scoring for Stephen Bradley's side in the 32nd minute with a fine strike from a tight angle, and the Hoops took a one-goal lead into the second half.

Sean Hoare added a second in the 66th minute, on hand to guide home a deflected Sean Gannon header, before Aidomo Emakhu added a third eight minutes later with a neat chip over the Bangor keeper.

New signing Daniel Cleary scored on his debut with a tidy finish to make it four for the Hoops in the 83rd minute, who were playing as the away side at their home venue, while Simon Power also made his first appearance for his new club.

Two early Sean Boyd goals put Shelbourne in control of their cup tie away at Bray Wanderers as the Dublin side ran out 3-0 winners.

The Shels striker opened the scoring in the fifth minute before adding a second five minutes later as Damien Duff's side led 2-0 at the break.

Jack Moylan sealed the victory in the 68th minute as the Reds moved into the draw for the next round.

Drogheda United put on a five-star performance to knock Athlone Town out of this season's competition at Head in the Game Park.

Adam Foley opened the scoring in the sixth minute before the home side added two goals in quick succession just before the break thanks to Dean Williams and Darragh Markey.
