Faf de Klerk: World Cup winning scrum-half signs for Yokohama Canon Eagles

Springbok scrum-half Faf de Klerk has confirmed that he will join the Yokohama Canon Eagles when he leaves Sale Sharks at the end of the season.

De Klerk joined Sale in 2017 and found tremendous form earning him a recall to the South African national squad, where he has been a stalwart ever since, claiming the 2019 Rugby World Cup in the process.

The 30-year-old announced that he would depart the Premiership club months ago and has finally confirmed his destination.

The Japanese League One competition has continuously attracted the world’s best players which has seen the club rugby structure in the country blossom into a multi-tier framework.

The world champion is thrilled at the prospect of heading to Japan and cannot wait to get in amongst it.

“Now it is a reality and I can’t wait to get stuck in with my teammates and coaches and hopefully make a big impact,” De Klerk said in a Canon Eagles statement.

“The Japanese culture is amazing and I look forward to enjoying every moment with my partner, teammates and all the rugby fans of Japan.”
