Facts and stats: How the Italian GP qualifying changed F1's record books

Ferrari rolled back the years with a scintillating qualifying performance on Saturday in front of their adoring fans in the Italian Grand Prix.

The Italian team secured its second successive pole position at its home race, only this time, it came courtesy of Spaniard Carlos Sainz. His teammate, Charles Leclerc from Monaco, will start the race in third place.

Moreover, coming out of qualifying and heading into the race, the Monza Circuit has provided Formula 1 the opportunity to rewrite some of the records in its history books.

Facts and Stats

- Sainz starting from the front means that Ferrari has now taken its 23rd pole position at Monza - the most by any team at any circuit on the F1 calendar.

- In addition to his second-place starting position in Spain, the pole around Monza is only the second time Sainz has started on the front row this year.

- Red Bull's Max Verstappen started on pole here in 2021, but he inherited the position after Mercedes' Valtteri Bottas was hit with a grid penalty. The Dutchman's best qualifying position at Monza is P2.
