Fabrizio Romano reveals what he's been 'told' about big Tottenham rumour

Tottenham Hotspur are not negotiating for Memphis Depay ahead of a potential summer move despite reports which have emerged earlier this week. 

This is according to Fabrizio Romano who was speaking on his Here We Go podcast about the north London club’s plans ahead of a potentially busy summer transfer window.

It was reported on Monday by Gerard Romero (via AS) Spurs had made a formal offer to Barcelona for the Dutch forward who only signed for Barca last summer.

Depay has been in fine form for the La Liga giants this season with 10 goals in his first 15 starts in the Spanish top flight – with his game time recently affected by injury (via Transfermarkt).

However, Romano does not believe Spurs have made a bid for the 28-year-old and are not working on a potential deal to sign the Barcelona forward:

(23:40) “From what I’m told Tottenham are not negotiating for Depay. And on Tottenham’s side, I’m told they made no bid for Memphis Depay.

“So let’s see what happens with Barcelona if they will be open to let him go but as of now Tottenham are not working to sign Depay.”

Since the January window, Depay’s spot in the starting XI has come under major threat which has not been helped by his injury issues.

Having returned from his latest injury concern, the £40.5m-rated Dutchman has failed to start and has played just 40 minutes across the last three La Liga games.

Although Romano believes Spurs are not looking at Depay just yet, we would be interested to see if a move did open up for Barca’s top scorer this summer after the arrival of Ferran Torres, Adama Traore and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
