Fabrizio Romano: Man Utd could bid for £55m star "this week", he's "one of the top names"
Manchester United have Red Bull Salzburg’s Benjamin Sesko “on the list” as they search for a new striker, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The Red Devils have so far been unsuccessful in their attempts to bring in attacking reinforcements while Cristiano Ronaldo has made his intentions to depart the club clear.
A recent report from the Daily Mail claimed that United have joined Newcastle, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund in closely monitoring Sesko following an impressive 2021/22.
The 19-year-old has drawn comparisons to Erling Haaland due to his goalscoring exploits for Salzburg and his sizeable frame, but the Austrian outfit do not want to sell their prized asset.
It’s believed that his current club have placed a £55 million price tag on Sesko, a fee that does not appear to have deterred United from continuing to assess his situation.
The Manchester Evening News have stated that United’s football director John Murtough met the agent of the Slovenia international Elvis Basanovic to gauge the possibility of a transfer.
Sesko is under contract at the Red Bull Arena until 2026, though, meaning any potential deal is likely to be expensive and difficult to complete.
Romano has informed GiveMeSport that Sesko is ‘one of the players’ that United ‘are following’ ahead of a potential move over the coming weeks.
He told GMS: “Of course, they need to clarify the situation of Cristiano Ronaldo before understanding who will be the right man.
“But Sesko is one of the top names they have on the list. Not the only one, but he’s one of the players that they are following. And so, we will see if they will bid this week for Benjamin Sesko.”
