FA Cup round-up: Faversham Town produce giant-killing with win at Maidenhead United, Whitstable earn replay, Deal Town go through
Faversham Town produced one of the upsets of the round as they knocked National League South Maidenhead out of the FA Cup on Saturday.
Tommy Warrilow’s men are through to the third qualifying round for the first time in nine years thanks to Tashi-Jay Kwaiye’s goal just before half-time.
Faversham fielded debutant goalkeeper Roshan Greensall, who kept a clean sheet as the home side hit the woodwork early on.
Kwaiye put Faversham ahead and it needed a couple of excellent saves from Greensall to keep his team ahead after the break. Ben Gorman nearly headed in a second before Maidenhead hit the post late on as Faversham survived seven minutes of stoppage to make Monday’s draw.
Whitstable Town nearly produced another upset when they held Isthmian Premier Chichester to a 1-1 draw at The Belmont.
A Curtis Da Costa own goal put Whitstable ahead in the first half but Lloyd Rowlatt ensured the teams will meet again on Tuesday night.
Deal are through to the third qualifying round for the first time since 1997 after winning 2-1 at home to Egham Town.
