FA Cup: Non-league stadium announcer sings national anthem himself

Premier League and Football League action roared back into life this weekend after matches were put on hold following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

Authorities moved swiftly to postpone all fixtures following the death of the United Kingdom’s longest-reigning monarch as football games across the board were postponed.

England Cricket, meanwhile, took a different path, paying a lovely tribute to The Queen before becoming the first team to sing ‘God Save the King’ ahead of a sporting fixture.

Now, a week later, football is following suit with Premier League games up and down the country paying tribute to Her majesty.

Manchester United and England legend, David Beckham, hit the headlines yesterday after he waited in the queue to the see the Queen lying in state for over 12 hours.

However, not of all the tributes have gone according to plan – just ask the folks down at Chesham Football Club.

The non-league club were hosting an FA Cup clash with Bracknell when they realised they had a bit of a problem on their hands.

What was it? The only recording of the national anthem they had was the previous iteration which sings ‘God save the Queen’, instead of ‘God save the King’.

As they scrambled for a solution, the stadium announcer stepped up, deciding to belt out the national anthem himself across the tannoy.

The footage, which you can check out in the clip below, is quite possibly the most non-league thing to happen in quite some time.

At #FACup tonight Chesham Utd only had a recording of National Anthem with 'Queen' in it, so the tannoy announcer decided to do his own version to ensure 'King' was sung. Well that worked out perfectly!
