Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper wants to embrace history rather than be weighed down by it when his team take on Sheffield United in the first leg of their Championship play-off semi-final at Bramall Lane on Saturday.

Forest won a league title and back-to-back European Cups (1979 and 1980) under Brian Clough but haven’t been in the Premier League this century.

Cooper, who led Swansea into the playoffs in each of the last two seasons, said: “It’s not a weight – it depends on your mindset and how you look at things, but I think it’s a pride and it’s about being a part of something massive.
