F1 team boss sends note of caution over new regulations
AlphaTauri team boss Franz Tost has said that in high-speed corners the new Formula 1 aerodynamic regulations may still struggle to improve racing and at getting the cars closer together.
A new era begins in F1 this season with all-new cars, with 5 of the teams now giving us a glimpse of what their new machines are going to look like.
Certainly, they are drastically different to what we have seen on-track in recent years and that is down to the fact F1 has brought in new technical directives to try and improve the racing up and down the field, and allow the cars to follow one another more closely with less impact of turbulent air.
Tost believes it will work to some extent, too, but did warn that in high-speed corners there may still be some issues:
“I think in the slow-speed and the mid-speed corners, the cars will be closer together,” he said after the reveal of his team’s 2022 AT03.
“I have some doubts for the high-speed ones because, with these wide cars and the big tyres, there’s always some dirty air behind them. Therefore, I’m not sure that it will be so easy to follow. Let’s wait and see after the first test.”
