F1 Drivers’ Championship 2022: Latest standings and results ahead of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix
Charles Leclerc defends a whopping 34-point lead in the Formula One Drivers’ Championship ahead of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
Saturday sees the return of the sprint race, officially known as F1 Sprint, to decide the grid for Sunday’s race at Imola.
This year, the top eight finishers will score points on a Saturday - with eight for first place and one for eighth - in a bid to liven up the event after a rather tepid introduction in 2021.
Behind Leclerc ahead of the sprint is George Russell, the Mercedes driver who scored a podium in Melbourne and is effectively second by way of keeping his nose clean amid Red Bull’s reliability woe. Carlos Sainz is third before Sergio Perez, Lewis Hamilton and defending champion Max Verstappen.
