F1 22: New gameplay trailer reveals porpoising physics

The developers of F1 22 have revealed the first of three gameplay trailers highlighting some interesting new physics and handling technical changes, which may include proposing physics.

EA and Codemasters are teaming up once more to replicate virtually the all-new rules changes that have taken place for the 2022 FIA Formula 1 World Championship, with aerodynamics, handling and car performance being the main changes compared to 2021.

The grid will consist of all 20 drivers and 10 constructors, including the likes of Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, as well as teams such as Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari once more.

This year’s cars have significantly different designs and tyres, which means that they will behave much differently compared to 2021, meaning that Codemasters have had to make physics changes to replicate what happens in the real car.

For those keen sim racers, these details will be much more important to you rather than the casual racer, but significant nevertheless.

Senior game designer David Greco elaborated on the changes that have been made to the 2022 cars and we have listed some of the key points from this dialogue:

Ground effect: This could mean that upon car setup, vehicles could actually porpoise on long straights as we’ve seen in real life.

Sausage kerbs: While it may be rare, there is a chance that cars can end up beaching themselves on these kinds of kerbs, and track reset can be disabled online.
