Eye-opening: Journalist reveals what Spurs star has been telling his friends
Brazilian journalist Andre Hernan has revealed that Lucas Moura wants to stay in Europe if he is to leave Tottenham Hotspur.
In a recent interview with Globo Esporte (via The Express), the winger stated his desire to one day return to Brazil and play for Sao Paulo.
He said: “Today I have a contract with Tottenham, the fee is difficult for Sao Paulo, there is also the salary. It’s difficult. The reality is that I do think about returning, but I never made a clear date.”
Reacting to this news on YouTube, Hernan explained that the player will likely have other options beyond a return home just yet amid some contract concerns.
As translated by Sport Witness, the journalist said Lucas’ ‘priority is to stay in Europe’ and currently has options in other leagues across the continent.
He went on to say that the player has been ‘telling his friends’ he would move back to Sao Paulo if he ended up back in Brazil.
Hernan also later added that Spurs have an option to extend his contract, but ‘there have been no contacts’ yet.
In the second half of the Premier League season, Moura often had to settle for a bit-part role in the Spurs side, coming off the bench instead of starting.
According to The Express, the winger has only one year left on his contract (as well as the aforementioned option to extend), but judging by Lucas’ comments to the press, it seems as if he is already considering a move away from Tottenham.
If Hernan’s information is accurate, it doesn’t look certain that Lucas will extend his deal, so he may well end up making a switch to another European side in the future – before one day returning to Brazil to play for Sao Paulo.
