Experienced manager seen at Bradford City game

Richie Wellens is said to have been seen in attendance at Bradford City’s 3-1 home defeat to Harrogate Town last night, thus sending the rumour mill into overdrive on Twitter.

The former Doncaster Rovers manager has been out of work since the beginning of December and was seen watching the Sky Bet League Two fixture last night at the Utilita Energy Stadium.

Bradford are currently in the process of looking for a new manager to take themselves forward after Derek Adams was relieved of his duties by the Yorkshire side.

Wellens is of course and option that they could well be keen to pursue and it was Telegraph & Argus reporter Simon Parker who took to Twitter to confirm that Wellens was indeed in attendance at the game last night:

In addition to having taken charge of Doncaster, Wellens has also taken in spells at Salford City, Swindon Town and Oldham Athletic over the years and arguably knows the lower levels of the Football League like the back of his hand.

It is as yet unclear however as to whether the 41-year-old is in the running for the vacancy at Bradford of not.

The Verdict 

Things went awfully wrong for Wellens during his time at Doncaster but a move to Bradford could be the start he needs to reinvigorate his managerial career.

He’s certainly a manager with great pedigree behind him having won the League Two title with Swindon and the EFL Trophy with Salford and would surely jump at the chance to try and help the Bantams get promoted.

It is a big job for anyone to take on at this stage of the campaign and it is therefore no surprise to see a lot of high profile names being linked with the post.
