"Exciting" - Journalist claims 23 y/o Leeds target could be "perfect foil" for Kalvin Phillips
Leeds United target Lewis O’Brien could be the perfect foil for Kalvin Phillips at Elland Road, claims journalist Pete O’Rourke.
The Huddersfield Town midfielder continues to be linked with a move to the Yorkshire club, and O’Rourke thinks he could be a good partner for Phillips in the middle of the park.
According to TEAMtalk, Leeds are one of five Premier League sides currently chasing O’Brien’s signature.
The same outlet claims the 23-year-old has a £12m release clause in his contract, giving Huddersfield little hope of keeping their star following their failure to win promotion back to the Premier League.
This is not the first time talk of Leeds wanting to sign O’Brien has come up, with the club’s director of football Victor Orta actually confirming last year that they tried to buy him in the 2021 summer transfer window.
“It was different valuations,” Orta told the Yorkshire Evening Post when discussing why a deal never materialised. “I respect these kind of things, they happen in football. You have one idea, the club owning the player has another idea.”

O’Rourke likes the idea of O’Brien joining Leeds to partner Phillips in midfield, telling GIVEMESPORT that the Huddersfield star could be perfect for the England international.
Speaking to GMS, the journalist said: “I think Lewis O’Brien’s got real potential. I think playing alongside Kalvin Phillips, they could be the perfect foil for each other. It could be an exciting partnership for Leeds if they manage to sign O’Brien and keep Phillips as well.”
