Ex-Man City star's son aiming for medal on Olympics debut to 'eclipse' dad's World Cup performance
George Mills, the son of former Manchester City star Danny Mills, is preparing to compete in the 1,500m and 5,000m events at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
The athlete, who secured his first British title at the 2020 UK Athletics Championships and ascended to third on the British mile all-time list in September 2023, also won a silver medal at the European Championships earlier this year. Indeed, his time of 12:58.68s over the longer distance was just shy of Mo Farah's British record of 12:53.11s. It was at the Diamond League meeting in September 2023 where George secured third place, placing him behind only athletics legends Steve Cram and Sebastian Coe on the British all-time list over a mile.
His father, Danny, who also played for Manchester City and Middlesbrough, was on the pitch for every minute for England in the 2002 World Cup and won the League Cup with 'Boro in 2004. He also made over 100 appearances for Leeds, however, his son might be about to eclipse his sporting achievements this summer, reports Leeds Live.
Speaking to Athletics Weekly, Mills discussed his attitude
