Ex-Hamilton and Clyde striker given 'shop window' chance at Albion Rovers

Sandy Clark has handed midfielder Conor Scullion a chance to kick-start his career, in return for helping Albion Rovers climb the Lowland League.

Former Hamilton Accies and Clyde striker Scullion, 25, has been put in the shop window after signing a deal until January, and Clark says it’s up to him to show what he can do in a second spell at Rovers, having played nine times in 2018.

Clark is still on the hunt to further strengthen the Coatbridge side, but says providing a platform is the best he can offer.

He said: “If I’m a footballer coming to a club like Albion Rovers in the Lowland League, then you’re not going to earn a lot of money, it isn’t a glamorous league, but what you’ve got is a platform to sell yourself to clubs higher up the leagues.

“That to me is the biggest selling point I’ve got – moving guys like Joe Bevan to bigger and better things.

“Conor is 25, he’s been about the leagues and has had a hard time with injury and stuff like that.

“He has trained with us for a few weeks, everybody deserves a chance to get back in, and I’m a great believer in trying to help people if I can.

“Conor has signed a short-term deal until January and hopefully he takes the opportunity to earn a better and longer contract with us, or someone else will come and take him in that time.

“He played in the second half on Saturday, did well for us [in a win over Dunipace], so he’ll get a platform to show what he can do.”

On other targets, Clark said: “I’m still looking. I’ve asked about a lot of players over the past few weeks, but it’s hard to attract players to the Lowland League if they’re already in a higher league and are doing okay.

“But we’ll keep working at it, I’ll be doing it again this week, trying to get somebody.”
