Ex-Hamilton Accies boss and chairman set for Clyde return

Former Clyde boss Allan Maitland is set for a return to the club in a role that would see him oversee the football department.

Maitland has been helping out at the League Two club for some time, and had a hand in bringing Ian McCall in as manager ahead of their clash at home to East Fife last weekend, following a run of dismal results that saw Brian McLean sacked.

He has put himself forward for election to the board during the club’s forthcoming AGM.

Maitland was boss at the then-Broadwood club from 1998-2002 leading them to the Second Division title in 2000, before moving to Hamilton Accies – where he also served as chairman – and enjoyed a spell at Alloa from 2006 until 2011.

His spell as a director and subsequently chairman at Accies will provide him with experience that will help in the proposed role.

Maitland told the Clyde website: “I’m excited to be returning to Clyde FC and hope to establish the same bond with supporters that we had all those years ago when Ronnie MacDonald was at the helm.

“It’s so disappointing to find the club struggling and I fully understand the challenges ahead.

“There are so many things that need to be improved, and I’m confident that the appointment of Ian, along with the assistance of Neil Scally, will be a massive first step in the right direction.

“I am encouraged by the enthusiasm of the board and the frankness of past failings on the football front, along with their recognition that they need help.

“There is a desire, not only to change the losing momentum at the club, but an ambition, in years to come, to climb up through the leagues.

“I know it is going to be a tough journey, and it can only be achieved if we have everyone pushing in the same direction.
