Everything you need to know about £300 DWP cost of living payment due this Autumn

Millions of households across the country are set to receive a cost of living payment worth £300 this autumn.

The payments make up a wider support package worth £900 coming from the government. While rumours have been circulating online about when the payment will be made, there is yet to be any official confirmation from the government of what the payment window or qualifying period will be.

Despite this, there are some safe assumptions that can be made about the payments, including which benefits will be eligible and how thousands of people over State Pension age will still have time to apply for one of the qualifying benefits, the Daily Record reports.

There is no need to apply for the cost of living payments because they will be made automatically for those who receive a qualifying benefit.

The £300 payment will be made to eligible households receiving the following benefits:

If you’re getting Tax Credits from HMRC and a low-income benefit from DWP, you will be paid by DWP only. If you’re getting both Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credit, you will receive the £300 for Child Tax Credit only, which will be paid by HMRC.

You will not get a payment if you are only getting:

Payments are made per claim. This means if you have a joint claim on the qualifying dates (yet to be announced), a single payment of £300 will be sent using the same payment method, if you’re eligible.
