Everything we learned at Labour Party conference and what it means for you

It's been a busy few days at the Labour Party conference - the first since the party returned to power.

The annual event in Liverpool was a chance for the new Labour government to set out what they will do now they're in power. But after a turbulent few months, much of the focus was on the mood the party would project.

Ashton-under-Lyne MP Angela Rayner was the first senior figure to take to the stage on Sunday (September 24), visibly emotional as she spoke of her journey from growing up in Stockport to becoming Deputy Prime Minister. Chancellor Rachel Reeves delivered her big speech the next day with a huge smile permanently fixed onto her face.

But the heavy rain on Monday (September 24) meant that even her beaming smile struggled to lift the mood. The sun, however, did come out for Keir Starmer's big speech which saw him promised a 'light at the end of the tunnel'.

Several announcements were made on housing, workers' rights and Awaab's Law. And updates were also shared on the future of Old Trafford, plans for a new Manchester-to-Liverpool rail line and a long-awaited football regulator.

In an hour-long address on Tuesday (September 24), Keir Starmer reeled off a list of what his government has done since July's general election, insisting 'change has begun'. He defended the 'tough' decisions taken so far - including winter fuel payment cuts - but promised there is 'light at the end of the tunnel', despite a 'difficult road ahead'.
