Every word Erik ten Hag has said about Cristiano Ronaldo and Manchester United future

Cristiano Ronaldo has yet to report back to Manchester United this summer and his future remains in doubt.

Having completed a sensational return to the place where it all began on a global scale 12 months ago, Ronaldo is THE talking point at Old Trafford once again, but for entirely different reasons. He played no part on the pre-season tour due to a family matter - restricting Erik ten Hag in attacking quarters.

Before jetting over to England for his new challenge, former Ajax manager Ten Hag was pressed on Ronaldo while he still had work to do in Amsterdam and his stance on the player was clear. During an interview with De Telegraaf in May, the Dutchman said: "Of course I would like to keep him.

"He's been very important to Manchester United this year. He can produce great statistics."

During a follow-up interview with Ajax media, Ten Hag added: "I think that he [Ronaldo] could appreciate the way we played [during a past meeting]. He's a true winner and a magnificent player, I can't wait to work with him."

When touching down in the UK for a first press conference as United manager, the 52-year-old was in no mood to indulge speculation over Ronaldo and dead-batted suggestions to that tune. He promptly declared Ronaldo would offer his team "goals" and continued: "I talk first with Ronaldo before I talk with you [the media]."
