Every Championship transfer deal done on deadline day as total January spend revealed

Championship clubs spent a total of £20 million on transfers in the 2022 January window as deadline day saw a flurry of deals done by teams in the second tier.

That is £15m higher than in January 2021, according to Deloitte, as the financial effects of the coronavirus pandemic appear to be dissipating.

It's still not as much as was spent in January 2020 when Championship clubs splashed £35m on transfers, but the financial advisory company believe that transfer spend will continue to increase in coming windows as revenues gradually return to pre-pandemic levels.

“Provided fans continue to return to stadiums and disruption to the football season ahead remains limited, we should see revenues, and therefore transfer spend, continue to increase in the seasons ahead," said Calum Ross, assistant director in the Sports Business Group at Deloitte.

"For some clubs, the benefit of the investment boom in sport, and football clubs in particular, has acted as a catalyst for January transfer window activity.”

Despite Premier League clubs spending £295m, the second-highest January transfer spend by the top flight ever, only £1m of that found its way to sides in the Football League - the lowest amount since the January transfer window was introduced in 2003.
