Everton's dire football when 2-0 down to Crystal Palace captured in video

Everton fans will almost certainly be thankful that we’re now at the start of a two-week international break.

The 2021/22 season has been incredibly tough for the Merseyside club and they’re in danger of being relegated to the Championship.

Last Thursday’s dramatic 1-0 over Newcastle United was sorely needed, but much of the positivity from the game was drained away just three days later.

Everton’s trip to Crystal Palace for their FA Cup quarter-final certainly didn’t go according to plan, with Frank Lampard‘s side condemned to a 4-0 defeat.

What makes that result even worse for the Toffees is the fact that the south London outfit barely had to get out of first gear in order to win by such a significant margin.

Everton dominated the first 20 minutes of the match, but as soon as Palace opened the scoring through England new boy Marc Guehi from a corner, the visitors retracted into their shell.

After that moment it was pretty easy for Patrick Vieira’s team and they added three more goals before the close of play through Jean-Philippe Mateta, Wilfried Zaha and Will Hughes.

Everton just looked bereft of ideas all over the park and footage of them trying to build from the back while 2-0 down is actually painful to watch – even if you’re a rival fan.

The Toffees showed absolutely no urgency and instead passed the ball either backwards or sideways for the most part while the Palace players essentially enjoyed a breather.

That’s just awful, isn’t it? The lack of options in midfield or out wide is laughable for a professional team full of international footballers. Palace didn’t even need to press, such was the lack of imagination and drive on show from the team trailing.
