Everton now 'most likely' to sign 42-goal star at Goodison Park

Everton have been boosted in their pursuit of Ben Brereton Diaz as Goodison Park is his ‘most likely landing spot’ despite Premier League rivals Fulham lodging a bid for the Blackburn Rovers star, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Toffees boss Frank Lampard strengthened his attacking options by completing the £15million signing of Neal Maupay from Brighton & Hove Albion last week, but he could still add further reinforcements ahead of tonight’s 11pm deadline.

It emerged last night that Fulham had tabled a bid as they look to win the race for Blackburn striker Brereton Diaz.

While that offer was rejected by the Championship club, it is understood that the west Londoners are set to test their resolve by lodging another proposal ahead of the fast-approaching transfer deadline.

However, they are facing competition as transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has told GIVEMESPORT that Everton are also working on a deal which would see Brereton Diaz seal a move to the Premier League.

Spanish outfit Celta Vigo reportedly submitted a bid for the 23-year-old last week, while West Ham United, Leeds United, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Southampton, Bournemouth, Sevilla and Nice have also been mulling over whether to make a move.

There is uncertainty over where Brereton Diaz’s long-term future lies as his Blackburn contract, which was extended after the Ewood Park outfit triggered a clause written into his previous deal, has less than 12 months to run.

Jones understands that Fulham’s opening offer for Brereton Diaz fell some way short of Blackburn’s expectations and, as a result, Everton are in pole position to strike a deal.
