Everton new boy Donny van de Beek eager to prove his quality after Manchester United exit and reveals chat with Frank Lampard

Donny van de Beek says he wants to ‘show his qualities to the people of England’ after finally leaving Manchester United on loan to Everton, while new boss Frank Lampard played a key role in the move.

The Dutchman started just four Premier League matches during his 18 months at Old Trafford and has played just 69 minutes in the league this season, with his bit-part role seeing him axed from the Netherlands national team.

Former Ajax star Van de Beek was considered a massive talent when he joined United and he is now hoping to show exactly why the club spent £35m on him – even if he has to do it in the blue shirt of Everton.

‘I want to show my qualities, my strengths, to the people in England – but especially the fans from Everton,’ Van de Beek told the club’s official website after the loan move was confirmed.

He continued: ‘Now I can say I am an Everton player, I am really happy and can’t wait to help the team.

‘I think it is a great club… there are really good players here and I came because I want to help them go up the table.

‘I hope to bring my football qualities, my passing, and, of course, scoring goals. It is a big part of my game to score and give assists and I will try to do that again. And it is not only offensive, you have to defend as a midfielder and I can do that as well.’
