Everton: Lampard 'wants' another striker after Maupay at Goodison Park

Everton manager Frank Lampard still wants to bring in another striker before the transfer deadline passes, despite signing Neal Maupay from Brighton, according to journalist Paul Brown.

The Toffees boss has overseen a hectic transfer window at Goodison Park but can still strengthen ahead of tonight’s 11pm cut-off.

Maupay completed his move to the blue half of Merseyside last week, signing a three-year deal after an undisclosed fee was agreed.

But Lampard is not finishing there. According to 90Min, Everton are closing in on a deal for Blackburn Rovers ace Ben Brereton Diaz.

The report states that Leeds, West Ham, Wolves, Southampton and Bournemouth are all also interested in the 23-year-old, but the Toffees are leading the way with a deal worth over £20 million on the cards.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has previously told GiveMeSport that Everton are working on deals for ‘many strikers’ including Brereton Diaz.

The Athletic have reported this summer that the club were negotiating a loan-to-buy deal for Southampton’s Che Adams.

Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins is also understood to be an option for the Toffees with the West Midlands side ‘open’ to selling the 26-year-old.

Brown understands that the club are looking to add another striker to their ranks before the deadline passes.

The journalist adds that Maupay does not provide a direct replacement for the injured Dominic Calvert-Lewin and a player in the same mould could be targeted.

Brown told GIVEMESPORT: “It’s clear that despite bringing in Maupay, Lampard still wants another striker of some kind. Maupay  is not a direct replacement, really, for Calvert-Lewin. He’s not someone who could come in and play exactly the same way that Calvert-Lewin does.”
