Everton double appeal over Allan red card against Newcastle United rejected

Everton's appeal against a red card shown to Allan in their 1-0 win over Newcastle United on Thursday evening has been rejected.

An independent regulatory commission upheld the suspension after meeting on Friday, and later rejected a second appeal from the club as they attempted to reduce the ban from three matches down to one. The Blues midfielder was given his marching orders by Craig Pawson in the 83rd minute of the midweek clash after bringing down Magpies substitute Allan Saint-Maximin as he looked to hit the hosts on the counter attack.

The on-field official initially gave a yellow card for the incident. However, after being advised to look at his pitch-side monitor by VAR Stuart Attwell, he changed his decision to a red card.

Allan is now set to miss the match against Crystal Palace this weekend in the FA Cup, while also being unavailable for Premier League ties against West Ham United and Burnley.

Earlier on Friday, it was understood Everton may consider a separate appeal to reduce the ban given to Allan in the case of their first request being rejected. The Blues similarly reduced a ban handed to Lucas Digne in October 2020 after he was sent off in an away defeat to Southampton.

However, that appeal for excessive punishment was also rejected. That means the Brazilian will be absent three important matches either side of the international break.
