Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite leaves Goodison Park on loan following Man City links

Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite will continue his development in the Netherlands after joining PSV Eindhoven on a season-long loan.

Branthwaite came through Carlisle’s academy and made 13 appearances for their senior team before signing for Everton in January 2020. The Toffees paid £99ok for him, as per transfermarkt.

Branthwaite is yet to become a regular starter at Goodison Park, although his influence on the first team is slowly increasing. Last term, the defender played eight times in all competitions, scoring once.

He gained valuable Premier League experience in matches against Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal.

According to the Daily Mail, Manchester City are monitoring Branthwaite’s development ahead of a potential move in the future.

They want to improve their group of English players and view the 20-year-old as a player with a high ceiling. He wouldn’t be the first centre-half to swap Everton for City, as that’s what John Stones did in August 2016.

Branthwaite will play under former Manchester United goalscorer Ruud van Nistelrooy at the Philips Stadium. He has the chance to feature in the Champions League as PSV will take part in the competition’s qualifying stage later this summer.

During an interview with PSV club media, Branthwaite reacted to the transfer by saying: “I am happy to be able to join here. PSV is a very big club, which already feels like a family during my first contact.

“The people make me feel welcome and the facilities are top notch. I can’t wait to get started here.

“Marcel [Brands, PSV Director of Football] spoke to
