New Everton boss Frank Lampard had very little time in the January transfer window to bring in the type of players he would like to mould his squad – with just Donny van de Beek, Dele Alli and young keeper Billy Crellin arriving after his appointment.

The team he has inherited, in-truth, is a Rafa Benitez side who lacked a creative spark and cutting edge, which is something that a certain James Rodriguez possesses.

The former Toffees attacker has been playing in Qatar with Al-Rayyan, after leaving Goodison Park back in September when he began to fall out of favour with the disliked Spanish coach.

However, despite leaving on bad terms with the manager at the time, Rodriguez hasn’t got any problems with anyone else at Everton, and refused to rule out a move back to the club in the future should the opportunity arise.

Speaking on a live stream, Rodriguez said: “Well, I don’t know if that [moving back to Everton] would be a possibility because no, [I don’t know] if they want it, [but] I would be totally open [to returning].

“The issue is that what they want and the club wants. I didn’t have any problems with anyone [at the club] before I left.”

The 30-year-old is, when he is in the mood, quite simply unbelievable to watch – and still valued at just £13.5m.

We have seen him do some incredible things throughout his career, and legendary players such as Fernando Morientes have previously claimed that he is “extraordinary.”

Although Rodriguez didn’t exactly light up the Premier League last season, he did score six goals and provide four assists in 23 appearances, and his creativity has certainly been missed this season as the team have scored just 28 goals in 2021/22 so far.
