Everitt laments discipline after Sharks turn gun to own foot in Stormers draw

You can never publicly tell when Sean Everitt is cheesed off.

His teaching background must have taught him plenty about keeping calm during a tempest.

His players could have learnt a lot from their mentor about keeping their composure after blowing a double-digit lead with a quarter of the game to go to draw with the Stormers last Saturday.

Without ever muttering the press box cliché "we'll take the positives", Everitt was frank in his assessment of the 22-all draw but his tone exuded a positive outlook.

He lamented that his side gave away two penalty tries in a game where they lorded over scrums, the second of the two seven-pointers coming after the full-time buzzer after Aphelele Fassi's transgression.

"It comes down to discipline. You don't want to give away penalties and put yourself under the pump," said Everitt.

"I think we beat ourselves tonight, although we didn't lose. We had an opportunity to win it and get four points - five if we had taken all our opportunities.

"At 22-15 was a crucial stage in the game where we lost a lineout, which led to Sbu Nkosi's yellow card. We could have closed the game out from that lineout.

"Unfortunately, we threw it over the top, gave them possession, got a yellow card and never got out of our 22.

"The plan we put together and pressure we put on their set-piece was everything we planned for throughout.

"We probably did everything right for 71 minutes and then threw it away at the end."

The Sharks, SA's leading United Rugby Championship team so far, will kick themselves for turning the gun to their own feet in a game they should have comfortably won.
