Evan Ferguson commits to Brighton with new five-year deal

Republic of Ireland striker Evan Ferguson has committed his long-term future to Brighton and Hove Albion by signing a contract that runs until 2028.

The 18-year-old has enjoyed a spectacular breakthrough season for club and country, scoring nine goals in all competitions for the Seagulls, including four in the Premier League.

He also bagged his first Ireland goal last month in a friendly against Latvia at the Aviva Stadium.

Ferguson joined Albion from Bohemians back in January 2021 and has made impressive forward strides ever since.

He scored his first Premier League goal against Arsenal last December, going on establish himself as a key part of Roberto de Zerbi's excellent side.

Ferguson has been attracting the glare of some of the biggest clubs in Europe, including Manchester United, who were reported to be very interested in making a move for the teenager.

However the Bettystown man is staying at Brighton, much to the delight of De Zerbi.

"Evan’s contract extension is great news," he told the club website.

"He trains and plays like a senior player with many years of experience and has become an important member of the squad.

"The aim is to help him become one of the strongest strikers in Europe."

Ferguson is currently recovering from an ankle injury he sustained during Brighton's win at Chelsea over a week ago.
