Eurovision 2023: Live updates as the UK host city is named on The One Show

Liverpool and Glasgow are about to find out who will host the Eurovision Song Contest in 2023. An announcement will be made by Eurovision host Graham Norton live on The One Show on Friday, October 7.

The two cities were whittled down from a wider shortlist last month which included Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle and Sheffield. Cardiff was initially hotly tipped to be host city but pulled out, with the city's council saying the number of events that would need to be cancelled or rescheduled to accommodate the world-renowned show meant it was not possible.

After Ukraine's Kalush Orchestr won the 2022 competition, it was decided that the ongoing invasion of the country by Russia meant it was not safe to host the event there next year. As a result, the UK will host after its entrant Sam Ryder bucked a decades-long trend of losing very badly and came second. While speaking on The Chris Evans Breakfast Show with Sky on Thursday, Graham Norton said that he would be announcing which city would be hosting the competition on the BBC One Show on Friday between 7pm and 7.30pm.
