European wrap: Troy Parrott on target again for Excelsior

Republic of Ireland international Troy Parrott scored his third goal of the season for Excelsior as the Rotterdam side lost 4-2 at home to PEC Zwolle in the Dutch Eredivisie.

The Tottenham loanee had scored twice off the bench in his first run of games before the international break which then saw him left out of the Ireland squad for the Euro 2024 qualifiers against Greece and Gibraltar.

It was another substitute appearance again for the Dubliner on Sunday, netting the final goal of the game by steering in a near-post shot as he got on the end of a free-kick delivered from the right flank.

Excelsior, one of the three Rotterdam clubs in the top division, are sixth after nine games, with city rivals and reigning champions Feyenoord third behind leaders PSV Eindhoven and AZ Alkmaar.

Remarkably record champions and four-time European Cup/Champions League winners Ajax are second from bottom after a 4-3 defeat at Utrecht, albeit the Amsterdam giants have two games in hand on the teams above them.

"I think getting him out of the UK was probably the right decision"
