European wrap: Leipzig still shy of Champions League spots

RB Leipzig remain outside the Bundesliga's top four after falling to a 3-1 defeat at 10-man Borussia Monchengladbach.

After Breel Embolo had put Monchengladbach ahead in the 17th minute, Leipzig drew level via a 36th-minute Christopher Nkunku effort.

But a subsequent brace from Jonas Hofmann, netting in first-half stoppage time and the 77th minute, took the hosts to victory, despite them having Nico Elvedi sent off in between just after the hour mark.

Fifth-placed Leipzig are a point adrift of the Champions League places with two more games to play.

Bayer Leverkusen, in third, stayed on course to qualify for Europe's elite club competition as they defeated Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 at home.

Paulinho and Patrik Schick got on the scoresheet, in the 18th and 51st minutes respectively. Leverkusen are four points better off than Leipzig.

In LaLiga, Real Betis are three points outside the top four in fifth with four more fixtures to play after a 0-0 draw at Getafe.

In Serie A, Atalanta drew 1-1 at home with relegation-threatened Salernitana thanks to Mario Pasalic's late leveller.

Ederson had scored in the 27th minute for Salernitana, who are now two points adrift of safety in 18th, with a game in hand over 17th-placed Cagliari.
