Europe: Falcao returns to haunt former club Atletico Madrid

Radamel Falcao denied his former club Atletico Madrid at the death on a night of draws in LaLiga.

Atletico were on course to go second in the table after Alvaro Morata fired them into a 20th-minute lead at home to Rayo Vallecano.

But the hosts missed a string of chances to add to their lead and paid the price late on.

Jose Gimenez was deemed guilty of a handball in the area after a VAR check, and Falcao fired in the penalty in the second minute of time added on to earn a share of the points.

There was also late drama as Sevilla salvaged a point in a 1-1 draw at home to Valencia, who missed a stoppage-time penalty.

Edinson Cavani headed the visitors in front in the sixth minute, and Sevilla grew frustrated as they struggled to find an equaliser, with Nemanja Gudej heading against the crossbar in the 68th minute.

Erik Lamela finally dragged them level with four minutes of normal time remaining, but there was still more to come.

Valencia were awarded a penalty six minutes into stoppage time with Kike Salas shown a red card after a lengthy VAR check, only for Jose Gaya to be denied from the spot.

Getafe twice came from behind to claim a 2-2 draw at home to Athletic Bilbao.

Midway through the first half Carles Alena cancelled out Inaki Williams' early strike.

Raul Garcia put the visitors back in front with a left-footed effort just after the hour but Munir El Haddadi levelled 14 minutes from time.
