EuroMillions winner real life 'Fairy Godmother' as she's 'addicted' to helping people

Many of us dream of what we spend our winnings on if we saw our numbers pop up in a National Lottery draw, whether it be buying a bigger home, flash new car or paying off bills. But one lottery winner has had to have a tricky chat with her husband after obliterating her charity donations budget.

Frances Connolly, 55, from Hartlepool in Co Durham, won a £115m jackpot on the EuroMillions alongside partner Patrick in 2019. The couple went public with their win at the start of 2020 after scooping the huge £114,969,775.70 on New Year's Day, instantly making them richer than some of the world's best-loved stars.

At the time, the parents of three said they have written a list of 50 family and friends to share their winnings with after celebrating the life-changing news with a "cup of tea and a hug".

It has now been revealed that Frances has handed about £11million to good causes in 2022, roughly what she had agreed to donate over the course of 10 years. The ex-teacher, who has given away more than half the jackpot the couple won, told the Mirror : "I get to change people’s lives. I’m addicted to it."

The real life 'Fairy Godmother' was given a 'budget' by Patrick because of her willingness to share her winnings with others. It started after she held a charity gala night which raised £100,000, and told how giving to good causes "gives her a buzz".

Frances, a former social worker and teacher, was heartbroken by ‘all the poverty in the world’ and says the simple act of giving provides more pleasure than a sprawling £2m home and Aston Martin.
