Euro round-up: Inter close on top spot, Bayern cruise

Inter Milan closed the gap on Serie A leaders Napoli to four points with a comfortable 3-0 victory at Empoli.

Davide Frattesi maintained his fine form with a second-half brace after Empoli defender Saba Goglichidze was sent off.

Goglichidze was dismissed for serious foul play in the 31st minute for a dangerous challenge on Inter forward Marcus Thuram.

The Georgia international's challenge was initially punished with a booking before a VAR intervention produced a red card.

Frattesi struck twice in the space of 17 second-half minutes as Inter took control midway through the second period.

Lautaro Martinez’s fifth goal in seven games wrapped up matters as the Argentina striker became the highest scoring foreign player in Inter’s history.

Atalanta took advantage of Juventus dropping points at home to Parma to move into third place with a 2-0 win over Monza.

Lazar Samardzic and Davide Zappacosta ended Monza’s resistance in the final 20 minutes.

Juventus are now a point below Atalanta after drawing 2-2 with Parma.

The visitors twice led through Enrico Del Prato and Simon Sohm, but American duo Weston McKennie and Timothy Weah scored equalisers for Juventus.

Struggling Venezia shocked 10-man Udinese 3-2 to claim only a second league win this season.

Joel Pohjanpalo scored the winner four minutes from time – his second successful penalty – with Hans Nicolussi also on target.

Sandi Lovric and Iker Bravo had put Udinese 2-0 ahead inside 25 minutes, but Isaak Toure was sent off soon after the restart with the visitors 2-1 ahead.

Jamal Musiala scored a first-half hat-trick as Bayern Munich eased through to the third round of Germany’s DFB-Pokal by winning 4-0 at Mainz.

Leroy Sane was also on target with his first goal under Bayern boss Vincent
