Escape to the country and live a life of luxury at Netherby Hall

Netherby Hall is one of the best-kept secrets in the world of luxury travel.

With a sweeping drive and beautiful expansive gardens, this impressive country house, set on a private estate in north Cumbria close to the Scottish border, is grandeur personified.

Just two hours drive from Manchester, the Grade II* listed mansion is set in 36 acres of parklands and extensive lawns, and is home to nine individual and unique luxury self-catering holiday cottages and apartments, each decorated and finished to an exacting standard.

The ultimate escape to the country, Netherby Hall has benefited from a multi-million pound investment in recent years, with owners Gerald and Margo Smith breathing new life into the country house, which has a long, rich and interesting history dating back to Roman times.

The couple, who are passionate about preserving the heritage of the hall and its estate, have sensitively brought the house, its gardens and its buildings back to life to ensure a secure, sustainable future for Netherby.

Everything is carried out to the highest quality and with the upmost respect to its history and heritage. The Walled Garden has been lovingly restored to its former glory, including the rebuilding of two replica Victorian glasshouses, while the original stable complex is now once again operational, with the aim of having horses stabled at Netherby Hall in the future. The stableyard project was chosen for a special commendation by judges at the 2021 Historic Houses Restoration Award.

The Walled Garden, which would have originally provided produce and flowers for the main house and estate, now supplies Netherby Hall's sister business, Pentonbridge Inn, with up to 70% of its fruit, vegetables and herbs.
