Erling Haaland youth coach tells Pep Guardiola what he's getting at Man City

Erling Haaland arrives in England as Pep Guardiola did six years ago. He has achieved a phenomenal amount of success in a short career to mark him out as one of the best in the business, yet there are still some questioning whether the Norwegian striker can continue his remarkable rise.

Haaland is not just having to deal with the challenge of English football either, but also the task of adapting to a Guardiola team when the majority of new signings over the last six years at the Etihad have taken around a year to settle in. Central to many discussions has been the notion that the 21-year-old will have to change his natural game to fit in with a well-oiled Blue juggernaut in a league widely recognised as the toughest and most competitive in the world.

The player himself has played down any concerns during media duties this summer, insisting that he knows the demands expected of him but suggesting that it would be wise to stick to what has brought him to this point. Those who have seen him score more goals than anyone else in his career agree.

Alf-Ingve Berntsen started to coach Haaland when he was eight and developed him until he was 15 and pushed up to the Bryne senior side in Norway. The trainer has followed his progress intently ever since, and believes the simple source of the majority of his goals to date can give Guardiola an element that his team have been lacking without a recognised No.9.

"You can never say how it will work out, he has to adapt to live in a new country. But he is quite familiar with English football," said Berntsen, "and I don't see that he won't succeed because he scores nearly a goal every match at all teams
