Erling Haaland's £20million deal will see Man City star follow in Cristiano Ronaldo's footsteps

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland is reportedly set to sign a lucrative boot endorsement deal with American brand Nike.

Haaland, 22, has been a free agent on the football boot market for more than a year since the start of 2022, when his previous deal with Nike came to an end at Borussia Dortmund. Rival brands Adidas and Puma, the latter of who have been manufacturing City's kits since signing a 10-year deal in 2019, have had an interest with the player himself seen trying all three brands out for size over the last year, but Nike options have been favoured in more recent months.

The Athleticare reporting that Nike are set to re-sign Haaland, who has been linked to the brand since he was a 14-year-old still playing in his native Norway with the report saying a package worth about £20million ($24m) per year will be agreed. Since moving to the Etihad during the summer, Haaland has scored 33 goals in 33 games for City across all competitions.

At Nike, the City striker will join the likes of former Manchester United player Cristiano Ronaldo and Paris Saint-Germain talisman Kylian Mbappe on the firm's roster. NBA star LeBron James also has a lifetime deal with the brand.

For Nike it will be a boost after seeing fellow City player Jack Grealish swap their brand for Puma this year. The Telegraphreported last month the move will see the former Aston Villa player sign the biggest boot deal by any British footballer, eclipsing the £4m per season that Kane and the recently-retired Gareth Bale have previously penned.
