Erling Haaland has been set target which will benefit his career and Man City

Rafaela Pimenta's comments on Thursday were by no means the first time she has shed doubt on Erling Haaland's long term future at Manchester City.

While talk of speaking to other clubs about the Norwegian's eventual transfer is disconcerting, City fans have no real reason to panic at this stage. The 22-year-old's deal at the Etihad Stadium is set to expire in 2027 and should he wish to leave to pursue other goals from then onwards, he must surely know what he must do first.

Pimenta is aware too and at the Financial Times Business of Football Summit, she sent a hint to her client. "In my agency we try to make a plan," she explained.

"We have to make a plan. We need to have a goal.

"Maybe we won’t achieve it but if you don’t know where we’re going for sure we don’t get there. Maybe we don’t get there anyhow, but at least we tried.

"We cannot be sitting down and waiting, maybe they will call me because Haaland is so fantastic, waiting for the call. The day the market [transfer window] finishes is the day I start visiting clubs to talk about players, to see what may be in the future.

"We are in February, I have already been to rounds of clubs four times this year. There are so many different clubs, we can be studying, who’s going to retire, who’s getting old, who’s injured, who’s doing bad.

"Maybe this will happen there. It’s like a chess game and you try to anticipate the next move."

If Pimenta is adamant that Haaland can attract the big money, previously quoted at £1bn by herself, she knows that the Norwegian will have to achieve personal and team goals with City. Chief among which would be to win the Champions League.
