Erling Haaland breaks records as Champions League glory awaits - pundits predict Man City run-in

Manchester City could end the 2022/23 season as treble winners. The Blues are still vying with Arsenal for the Premier League title and are in the semi-finals of the FA Cup.

A tough test awaits in the Champions League as City take on Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals but should they reach the final itself, they would be confident of clutching a win over Benfica, Napoli, AC Milan or Inter.

Meanwhile, Erling Haaland is on 'just' 42 goals this season and is seven away from breaking the single-season Premier League record. The Norway sensation has taken to English football like a duck to water, and several pundits believe it is only a matter of time before the Premier League record is his.

Haaland the record-breaker

One of those is the current holder himself, Alan Shearer. He recently waxed lyrical about Haaland, saying: "He’ll do it. It’s only a matter of time before he gets it.

"I’d be the first to shake his hand, it’s going to go. I really enjoy his attitude, I love his desire and I love what he was saying about not sleeping at night when he doesn’t score goals because that’s what a goalscorer is.

"I love everything about him and, as I’ve said beforehand, if you’re building the perfect centre-forward, he is it, and I think he’s almost perfect, and he’s playing in a great team.”

Shay Given suggested it is not out of the equation that Haaland could break the half-century mark across all competitions this season. He mooted: "Will he break the 50-goal mark? It’s difficult to say no.
