Erik ten Hag was right about Jurgen Klopp - but Man United's position means it doesn't matter

Being the manager of Manchester United is always going to be a tough job but being United boss at a time when Liverpool are regularly winning silverware is even tougher.

Liverpool have confirmed that Jurgen Klopp has decided to leave the club at the end of the season. The former Borussia Dortmund boss took charge of United’s rivals in October 2015 and has won the Premier League, Champions League and plenty of other major honours during his time at Anfield.

Replacing Klopp will be a difficult task for Liverpool’s hierarchy, with Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso emerging as the early favourite.

Erik ten Hag addressed Klopp's success at Liverpool during his first press conference as United manager. Ten Hag admitted he was looking forward to the challenge of facing Klopp but was quick to point out that all eras eventually come to an end - perhaps he didn't expect Klopp's to come to an end so soon.

"In this moment I admire them. I admire them both. They play, in this moment, really fantastic football, both Liverpool and Manchester City.

“But you will always see that an era can come to an end. I am looking forward to battling with them and I am sure all the other clubs in the Premier League will want to do that."

Unfortunately, United are not in an ideal position to capitalise on the monumental shift at the top of the league table. The Reds are currently 16 points behind Liverpool in the Premier League table and will not be expected to be part of the title race next season.
